A 34-year-old Acworth man was arrested by Cherokee County Sheriff's investigators early Thursday afternoon and charged with child sex crimes.

According to sheriff's office spokesman Capt. Jay Baker:

Investigators with the sheriff’s office Internet Crimes Against Children Unit arrested Mackenzie Merriman as he walked to a location where he thought he was meeting a girl under the age of 15 for sex. Instead he had been corresponding online with investigators posing as an underage girl when the meeting was arranged. When Merriman arrived at the location, he was taken into custody when detectives arrived at the scene.

Merriman is charged with two counts of obscene internet contact with a child and one count of computer pornography and child exploitation act. He remained in custody at the Cherokee County jail Thursday afternoon without bond.
