On a rainy morning, Girl Scouts from local Riverwood and LilyRose service units were among the volunteers laying wreaths on headstones at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton as part of Wreaths Across America Saturday.

It was a very meaningful event,” said Shannon Landon, director of the Riverwood service unit. “It felt good to be volunteering with others this morning honoring our veterans with remembrance wreaths. As we laid the wreaths on the graves of our country’s fallen heroes, the girls said their names out loud and thanked them for their service. It was a very touching ceremony.”

The Riverwood unit has members from Woodstock and Holly Springs. The LilyRose unit, led by Heather Shively, has members from Hickory Flat, Canton, Waleska, Ball Ground, and the Free Home and Macedonia communities.
