Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency will be hosting a day of friendly competition at its annual Guns and Hoses event on Feb. 22.
The 5K run/walk and fun run course is set at Hobgood Park, 6688 Bells Ferry Road near Woodstock, starting at the park’s main parking lot.
Check in on race day starts at 7 a.m. The running starts at 7:30 a.m. with the fun run, followed by the 5K race at 8 a.m.
The purpose of the run, which is now a Peachtree Road Race qualifier, is to raise money for charity causes selected by Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and Cherokee Sheriff’s Office.
This year, the charity for the fire department will be The Goshen Valley Boys Ranch, which is a non-profit home serving young men in the state foster care system.
The sheriff’s office’s charity will be Bethany Place, which is a nonprofit transitional home for single women and unwed mothers.
When registering, participants will pick the team that they want to represent and a portion of the fee will go towards their chosen charity.
Register online now at www.crpa.net. Pre-registration for the Fun Run is $10 and $25 for the 5K run. The final week to register is the week of Feb. 10 to Feb. 14. Prices increase $5 after Feb. 7 and an additional $5 on race day.
Race packets can be picked up at the Recreation Center on Feb. 20 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. or on the 21st from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or on race day starting at 7 a.m.
Shirts will be made available in the race packet for all 5K participants only. Shirt size selections are guaranteed for those that register by Feb. 7 only.
All one Mile Fun Run participants will earn a commemorative medal. For the 5K race, awards will be given in both male and female divisions and in a variety of age groups as well.
Dogs and strollers are welcome, but they must start behind all runners. All dogs must be on a leash.
