The tenth annual “Gospel Fest,” a concert to celebrate Black History Month in the city of Canton, is coming to the Cherokee Arts Center, 94 North St., on Feb. 1 at 5 p.m.

Gospel Fest X will continue to showcase a diverse group of talents with a mass choir, praise and dance teams, as well as solo performances. Anyone who has participated in the last nine Gospel Fests is encouraged to come and join the mass choir for Gospel Fest X, organizers said.

Gospel Fest is hosted by former Canton City Councilwoman Pat Tanner and Rev. Fred Forsh, pastor of Liberty Hill AME Church in Sharpsburg. Forsh will again be coordinating the music and the musicians for the choir.

Gospel Fest continues to search for new voices for the mass choir in hopes to one day have a 100-person choir. The Gospel Fest choir has become a central part of the event, with community members getting involved to be a part of this experience. In past years they have had up to about 50 members.

Rehearsal dates for the Gospel Fest X Mass Choir are:

♦ Jan. 21, 6-8 p.m.

♦ Jan. 23, 6-8 p.m.

♦ Jan. 28, 6-8 p.m.

♦ Jan. 30, 6-8 p.m.

Admission to Gospel Fest X continues to be free of charge. The Cherokee County Arts Center and Gospel Fest representatives encourage everyone to join in and celebrate Black History Month.

This year’s celebration is again in partnership with the Cherokee County Arts Council. Kipling L. McVay-Stubbs has made another contribution to Gospel Fest X in honor of Mrs. Ozella S. Tanner.

Other sponsors for Gospel Fest X are the city of Canton and Darby Funeral Home.

Anyone wishing to participate in Gospel Fest is requested to contact Forsh at 770-926-4792 or Tanner at 770-479-8676 or 404-918-6827.
