Starting this summer, the retro shop “Junk Drunk Jones,” now officially renamed “A Cone to Pick” as part of a current rebranding phase, will begin offering over 200 ice cream flavor options in its store.

The store celebrated its fifth year in business on May 1 and owners Nick and Stefanie Forte said they wanted to do something special for the business’s fifth anniversary.

“We thought a perfect way to celebrate the occasion was to bring in a retro ice cream parlor to pair with our retro shop,” Stefanie Forte said. “It’s been close to two decades since an ice cream shop was open in the downtown area and we have had people asking us where they can find ice cream for their kids in the area. We figured why not be able to tell them ‘right here.’”

Stefanie Forte said that Greenwood Dairy will provide the ice cream through a machine located in the middle of the store. It will offer over 200 different ice cream options, with a dozen full-time flavors and several others on rotation. In addition to the ice cream machine, Forte also said that they have recently acquired a 1930s soda fountain, which will also sit in the middle of the shop.

“The new name and addition of an ice cream machine adds another flavor to the retro feel of the store,” Stefanie Forte said. “The name plays off the saying ‘a bone to pick’ because our shop has done unique gift items with retro qualities that displays an overall level of sass to what we do and sell. The name also plays on the fact that we have to go picking for a lot of our antiques, so that’s where the new name comes from.”

For the past five years, the brightly colored and expertly decorated shop has made a name for itself by selling various retro items from different decades, with an emphasis on the 1940’s, 1950’s and 1960’s. The items sold in the store include various types of signs, vinyl records, comic books, vintage toys, vintage candies, and vintage clothing, to name a few.

“Everything our customers have come to enjoy and love about our store over the years is staying, we are now just sweetening the deal with ice cream,” Stefanie Forte said.

The Fortes are working through the adjustments of reopening amid the disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic and rebrand and is looking at a June launch date for the opening of the new and improved “A Cone to Pick”. For updates and hours and days of operation, visit the new website at
