An Atlanta man remains in custody without bond at the Cherokee County jail after stabbing a woman while riding in her car, according to reports filed with the Woodstock Police Department.
Arnold Brown, 44, has been charged with five felonies, including three counts of aggravated assault and one count each of criminal attempt to commit murder, obstruction of an officer, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, the Sheriff’s Office confirmed Wednesday.
“On Sunday, Jan. 14, at approximately 8:55 a.m., Woodstock police officers were patrolling the area of Ga. Highway 92 and Neese Road when they located several vehicles stopped on the side of the roadway,” Woodstock spokeswoman Brittany Page said in a synopsis of the incident Wednesday. “Upon approach, officers learned that a woman had just been stabbed inside her vehicle. Officers and bystanders both provided aid to the victim while other officers were quickly able to apprehend the suspect, who had fled the scene on foot.”
Page said Brown and the victim were reportedly acquaintances and that a third woman, also described as an acquaintance, was in the car at the time of the incident.
“While the investigation is ongoing, it is believed the incident is a result of a disagreement between the three parties,” Page said.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and is expected to recover from her injuries.
The initial report filed with the Woodstock Police Department outlines a description of events from the woman who said she was in the passenger seat of the vehicle during the incident.
“(The woman) stated she was sitting directly behind (the victim). (She) stated that Arnold began to physically strangle (the victim’s) neck and then stabbed (her) multiple times with a knife,” the report states. “(The woman) stated she grabbed Arnold’s arm and tried to stop him while he was physically strangulating (the victim). (She) stated that (the victim) was able to escape out of the car and when she did, she fell out onto the pavement.”
Other witness testimony contained in the report also describes seeing the woman fall out of the car. The witness stated that she had stopped traffic when she saw the woman exit the vehicle and watched as a “6-foot-tall black male, identified as Arnold Brown,” reached into the back to retrieve something before fleeing the scene.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee was impounded by the Woodstock Police Department and witness reports were submitted into evidence at the time of the incident. Investigation into the incident is ongoing, Page said.
