Cobb EMC Foundation officials awarded scholarships recently to area students.

The Cobb EMC Community Foundation has awarded scholarships to 14 local students. Each recipient will receive a $5,000 scholarship, which can be applied to any accredited two or four-year university, college or vocational-technical school.

The 2019 scholarship winners were selected based on applications, grades and test scores, letters of recommendation and an essay on their future plans and goals. This year’s winners include:

  • Maria Fernanda Sanchez Acosta, Hillgrove High School
  • Lorena Vargas, Osborne High School
  • Thomas Tucker, North Cobb Christian
  • Marissa Joseph, Darlington School
  • Justin Sherrer, Etowah High School
  • Elizabeth Faucett, Harrison High School
  • Anna Nichols, Harrison High School
  • Levi Thomas, Cherokee Christian High School
  • Henry Fornuto, River Ridge High School
  • Vincent Baker III, Blessed Trinity Catholic High School
  • Kevin Goshay, Lassiter High School
  • Lydia Kumi, Chattahoochee Technical College
  • Gabrielle LeBrun, Kennesaw Mountain High School

The annual scholarships are open to students who receive electricity from Cobb EMC. Scholarships are funded and administered by the Cobb EMC Community Foundation, a third-party foundation, set up to administer and distribute the funds collected through Operation Round Up.
