Alex Blankinship, a rising Senior at River Ridge High School in Woodstock, attended Georgia Boys State in May.

Georgia Boys State is a comprehensive one-week course in state and local government and is a program of the American Legion Department of Georgia. This year’s session began on May 26, and concluded June 1, and was held at Riverside Military Academy. Woodstock American Legion Post 316 sponsored Blankinship to attend the program. While at Riverside, where Georgia Boys State has been held the past six years, participants created a fictional 51st state. Imaginary counties and cities are also created and the participants learned all there is to know about state government by running it themselves.

Blankinship was one of 10 rising high school seniors out of the 305 taking part from all over Georgia, interviewed by American Legion members and Riverside staff for a chance to go on to Boys Nation, held in Washington, D.C.
