Authorities are investigating what appears to be an accidental drowning at a house northwest of Canton.
According to a Cherokee Sheriff’s Office incident report:
Deputies were dispatched Sunday afternoon when a homeowner discovered a body in her swimming pool.
The woman who discovered the body told a responding deputy that she had received a call Sunday afternoon from her sister saying that she believed a friend had left a pair of shoes near the pool.
The woman went to the pool and saw a pair of shoes sitting on the diving board. She then saw a large dark object in the deep end of the pool. She used a pool cleaning pole to life the object up, saw that it was a body and called for help.
According to sheriff’s office spokesman Capt. Jay Baker the body was identified as that of 31-year-old Michael Patrick Duchene of Kennesaw.
“Although the incident remains under investigation, preliminary indications are that this was an accidental drowning,” Baker said. “According to witness statements, there had been a party at the residence the night before. The victim, who did not reside at the residence was last seen at approximately 6:30 a.m. Sunday morning.”
The incident occurred off Timberland Drive between Canton and Waleska.
